Our Shop Local January Campaign Success!

How we turned the toughest retail month into a community celebration!

Every year, the January slump hits local businesses hard. After all the festive buzz, high streets can feel pretty quiet, and our independent retailers often struggle with the post-Christmas slump. But this year, we didn't want to just sit around waiting for things to pick up again. Our team put their heads together to develop a campaign that could support our local retailers while also helping us gather the market insights we need to build the best possible app and zero commission platform for everyone!

So we cooked up something special to give our retail partners the boost they deserved during the toughest month of the year. We partnered with some brilliant local businesses, Buongiorno Italian Deli, R&H Fine Wines Allerton, and Refill Reuse Renew, and launched a campaign that got people excited about shopping local again!

The concept was beautifully simple: shoppers could win up to £100 in gift cards just by scanning a QR code in-store and filling out a quick survey. Easy peasy, and everyone wins!

And wow, did it work!

Getting feet through doors

We managed to drive more customers into independent stores exactly when they needed it most. Seeing those shops buzzing with activity in January was absolutely brilliant!

Bringing the community together

Hundreds of customers jumped at the chance to support their favourite local businesses while potentially winning something great. The response was incredible!

Learning what really matters

The survey responses gave us amazing insights into what shoppers actually care about when they're choosing where to spend their money locally. This goldmine of feedback is already shaping how we're building Barro!

This campaign proved something we've always believed; when you give people a reason to engage with local businesses, they absolutely will! We strengthened relationships with our retail partners, learned loads about what customers really want, and brought more life to our high streets during a traditionally quiet time.

A massive thanks to everyone who took part, the retailers who welcomed customers with open arms and the shoppers who showed up for their local businesses. This is exactly what we're all about: not just reimagining shopping, but actively building the kind of communities we all want to live in!

Here's to many more campaigns that put local businesses first! 💚
